K492KP Kernel Processor

KP Graphic for Blog Post

The Kooima exclusive KP made by Scherer™ corrugated. They designed a kernel processor for your older 492 series Claas® forage harvesters with the help of Kooima Ag.  The goal was to make it very efficient and economical for you to put in your older choppers, and that’s exactly what we did. We wanted you to be able to get the same processing job as new choppers with a little less money.

A very common thing Scherer™ does is reverse the pulleys, so you'll have to take the pulley off and switch it with the other pulley. They make you switch them on purpose as a reminder that you have to line the pulley up with the idler pulley of your Claas® chopper. Once you do that, for the very first time, you're done. So, switch the pulleys and torque every bolt to 30 foot-pounds. You'll have to go around it twice. Once this is set to your chopper, you do not need to do it again. It will ride on the rail like a normal KP and be set for your chopper.

It is also good to point out we don't have an oil reservoir with this KP. We use the grease system of the Claas® machine to grease the bearings. Our Scherer™ housing bearings are made to accommodate grease. We did some very intensive testing with EP3 grease, and we recommend using EP3. It's more than likely going to be the grease you use for your chopper already.

Another way we keep this processor affordable is to use the grease port and we found it to be very successful. Like all the other KP's, this is a manual adjustment, so you'll have to take the lock loose and adjust it. Most of the time, you're going to be in that 2mm area because we put very efficient processing rolls on this KP. We use the twin-cut style so that you can get the best processing job possible in your application.

Every processor comes with a serial number plate, a very durable frame, and a very durable design made by a very good company, Scherer™.
